Ron Taybi
Ron Taybi is a long-time Laguna Beach resident and lifelong artist. Although he was educated as an engineer, Taybi’s desire to produce original works of art was ever-present even from a young age. In the 1980s, after graduating from UC Berkeley, Taybi merged his formal education with his inherent creative passions and formed an architectural metal and glass company based out of Irvine. Today, Rami Designs is one of the leading home-design fabrication companies in the state of California.
Beyond the success of Rami Designs, Taybi’s artistic creations (which range from hand-held wares to large outdoor installations, wall decor, and even custom accessories for luxury brands including Mercedes and McLaren) have garnered worldwide attention. His most notable works include a sculpture of Roger Federer commissioned by and for the Indian Wells Tennis Arena, and a massive lighted abstract sculpture called Tahirah (Táhirih) which honors the executed Iranian women’s rights activist and poet.
Like other great contemporary artists, Taybi’s works aim to communicate more than what is visible on their burnished and textured surfaces. There is a movement to Taybi’s pieces, a luster, a sense of refinement and elegance. But there is also a message, one that he hopes can transcend the physical forms of his unique creations. Here is an artist whose body of work symbolizes a worldview, a steadfast commitment to promoting peace, harmony, and continual progress.​
